Moon Over Meadow Apothecary: Yarrow Tincture

  • The herb Yarrow, also known as the "warrior plant" or "soldier's woundwort," has been used to treat both the physical and spiritual body since ancient times. In ancient China, Yarrow was thought to balance yin and yang forces. In Greek mythology, the goddess Thetis dipped her newborn son Achilles into Yarrow tea to protect him from harm. As the story goes, Achilles went on to be a great warrior and hero but eventually died from a wound on the only part of his body where the Yarrow tea had not touched - his "achilles heel."

To this day, Yarrow tincture is a great addition to any home's medicine cabinet. It is known to improve overall blood circulation and can aide in bringing on menstruation and reducing excessive menstrual bleeding. If diluted in water and applied topically, it can even help to reduce the bleeding of minor wounds. Yarrow is an herbal bitter that stimulates the digestive organs and can help your digestion if taken in room-temperature water before a meal. Yarrow is also a natural diaphoretic, meaning it stimulates sweating. Add this tincture to some hot tea and drink frequently if trying to safely reduce a high fever. Thanks to it's diuretic and antimicrobial properties, Yarrow is an excellent herb for preventing and aiding in the treatment of urinary tract infections. In a magical practice, Yarrow is used to maintain healthy boundaries and protect one's aura/energy from being drained by external forces.

These are just a few of Yarrow's uses. We encourage you to do your own research before purchasing!
